PGP UPDATES 2/20/08

Here’s a little PGP site update.

I’ve added links for:

  • The Gazetteer of the Crown Lands and Territories Represented in the Imperial Council – Volume 10: Galizien (Galicia) Vienna, 1907 [Gemeindelexikon der im Reichsrate vertretenen Königreiche und Länder, Bd. 12 Galizien (Galicia)] on both the GALICIA MAPS + GAZETTEERS page and the POLISH MAPS + GAZETTEERS page.
    This Gazetteer is fantastic and really helps you clearly picture your ancestral Galizien villages.
    Written in German and fully downloadable, it is comprised of two parts. The first section is sorted alphabetically by Administrative District, then further into Judicial Districts. Each is followed by a summary of statistics.
    The second section again lists the villages and town alphabetically by Administrative and Judicial Districts and then followed by locality.
    Definitely take the time to read through the guide at HalGal, before and during your search through the gazetteer. It also provides translations for the German terms found inside.

  • A list of Polish immigrants who came to the State of São Paulo, Brazil, is available here.
    Many records are between 1885 – 1925, although some go further to 1948.
    While the site is in Portuguese, the link above is for the Google translation of the main page. It doesn’t do so well translating the results, so here are some helpers:
    Nome=name
    Sobrenome=surname
    Parentesco=Kinship
    Ano da chegada=Year of Arrival
    Ano=year
    Nacionalidade=nationality
    Chefe=head (of family)
    Buscar (to look)=search button
    Enviar=send button
    Also, for the larger bits of text, try using the translate text box here.
    This was added to the POLISH IMMIGRATION, EMIGRATION, SHIPS + PASSENGER LISTS page.
