Hello! In a previous posting I had mentioned that there was speculation over at IMDB.com of a spring KATYŃ release in the US. Well, according to an article at TheNews.pl, things are looking up:

“At a press conference in Warsaw, representatives of Polish Television (TVP), a co-producer of the film, and of the Polish Film Institute have informed that talks are under way with almost a hundred distribution companies from the United States, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Japan, the Scandinavian countries, the Baltic states and other countries.Katyń will have three screenings in Moscow in mid-March and in St Petersburg at a later date and that an Italian premiere of Katyn is scheduled for April.”

Just for fun, you can cast your own votes for Oscar winners, here, and see how your choices match up with the “experts”!

Also, while this site isn’t intended to be political in nature, there is news on a similar note, also from TheNews.pl. According to the site,

“Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suddenly revealed on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted to him that the Katyn massacre was a crime of the Stalinist regime. Poland’s PM Tusk confirmed that he heard Putin saying these words.”

Since the release of the movie, word out of Russia was that it was the Nazis, not the Russians/Stalinists, that had committed the crime:

“Shortly before Tusk’s visit to Russia at the beginning of February the Russian Niezawisimaja Gazieta published an article which claimed that the Soviet NKVD secret police could not possibly have been responsible for the mass murder of over 20,000 Polish officers in 1940.”

It was claimed original Soviet documents concerning Katyn had been forged. One of these pages, pictured below, is an order of execution signed by Joseph Stalin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Kliment Voroshilov, Anastas Mikoyan, Mikhail Kalinin and Lazar Kaganovich.
